Welcome to My Home Page

I have practiced medicine in three countries, first in India (1984-86),then in Jamaica, West Indies (1986-90), and in East Tennessee (1990-2002). I joined Kaiser Permanente in September 2002.

I was born and raised in Madras, a major town in Southern India. After completion of my medical school and internship at the University of Madras Medical College, one of the largest hospitals in Southeast Asia, I went to Jamaica where I worked with the Ministry of Health for about four years. I moved to the United States in 1990 and conducted full-time research in pediatric cardiology. I then joined the Department of Internal Medicine in East Tennessee State University (ETSU) where I also did my cardiovascular diseases fellowship. I trained in interventional cardiology in San Diego, California. I returned to Tennessee as a faculty member at ETSU in January 2001. The charm of California, however, drew me back, and within a short time I joined Kaiser Permanente in October 2002.

When I am not at work, I spend time with my wife and three children. I am interested in classical music, both vocal and instrumental. I also enjoy swimming, tennis, computer programming, and love working in my yard. I established and have run the official website for my medical school since 1997.

I have gained much personal fulfillment from my experience in varied environments and cultures. My primary focus, however, has always been the welfare of my patient. I believe strongly in evidence-based medicine and use clinical guidelines as the main directive to my practice of medicine. My commitment to you, our members, is to provide excellent health care, to offer compassion, and to be a source of health information. I believe that knowledge is the greatest force against fear, and spending a few minutes with my patients, explaining the nature of their illness helps them in the long run.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
