Welcome to my home page! I hope you feel like you've gotten to know me better after reading this.
Background
I'm first generation Indian American. I was born in Pennsylvania, but grew-up in Oregon. I got my medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and then spent a year at one of the University of Chicago Hospitals doing a transitional internship. I did my anesthesia residency at UCSF, followed by a pain management fellowship at the same institution. I stayed on as an attending at UCSF for about 3 years, but left this summer so that I could join Kaiser Permanente San Jose. I’m so happy to be here. I spend about half of my time doing anesthesia, and the other half doing pain management. My colleagues are excellent, and our support staff are so much fun to work with.
In my free time, I like to read and work out. Unfortunately, I spend way too much time watching football. I also love to travel - I visit my mom in Oregon and my brother in L.A. as much as I can.
Recommendations
Although I enjoy the interventional side of pain management, I truly believe that the multidisciplinary model is the most effective treatment for most patients who suffer from chronic pain. I’ve found that it is rare to be able to eliminate someone’s pain with one injection or procedure. It often takes a combination of several therapies (eg. physical therapy, pain counseling sessions, stress management, medications, weight loss, etc.), and even then it is very difficult to "cure" someone of chronic pain. Obviously, my goal is to decrease that pain, so that patients can lead fulfilling lives. But it’s a team effort. You can consider all the drugs, injections, and other therapies that we offer as “tools” for you to use...to get yourself better.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
