Welcome to My Home Page

This home page is an effort to introduce myself to you and describe the Redwood City - Kaiser Occupational Health clinic. You will notice a variety of web links on the left that provide further information about a variety of topics that are relevant to Occupational Medicine. Simply click on the link to be taken to that web page. Below, you will find some information about my background and a description of our clinic. Please browse freely throughout these pages.

About Myself

I attended the Harvard School of Public Health, where I completed a Master’s degree in Environmental Health and graduated in 1990 with the commitment to pursue Occupational & Environmental Medicine. After a year of research at HSPH where I assisted in the development of an ozone monitoring system, I attended the School of Medicine at the State University of New York, Stony Brook. I graduated from medical school in 1995 and spent my internship year in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. Afterwards, I did a year of residency training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Stanford University Medical Center. Finally, I completed my fellowship training in Occupational & Environmental Medicine at the University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA. As part of that program, I also finished coursework leading to a Master’s degree in Public Health.

Despite the overcast & rain, I will always have a fondness for Seattle since it is where I first learned to sail. In a search to find better sailing weather, I moved to the Bay Area and joined Kaiser Permanente in 1999.

I am currently Board Certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Occupational Medicine.

I am excited about the opportunity to practice at Kaiser Permanente which has its roots in Occupational Medicine since 1945. I enjoy working in a multidisciplinary medical practice that allows me to benefit from the experience of my colleagues. My practice philosophy is to facilitate an open and honest dialogue with my patients so that they fully understand their condition and range of treatment options. This allows me to engage them as much as possible in the decision making process that I believe is important to their care.

About Our Clinic

I work in the Occupational Medicine Department at Kaiser Permanente - Redwood City, where we treat both Kaiser and non-Kaiser members for a wide variety of work-related injuries and illnesses. If you are seeking our care for a work-related injury, please check with your employer representative to verify that Kaiser Permanente is an approved industrial injury provider for your company. The important difference is your benefits under the Workers Compensation system that covers work-related injuries and your personal health insurance plan, which may or may not be Kaiser Permanente.

If your personal health insurance is with Kaiser Permanente, you should know that Kaiser Health Plan benefits do not cover work-related injuries. These industrial injuries are treated by a company’s designated health care provider, which may be Kaiser Permanente, but this needs to be verified before making an appointment. Of course, if you are experiencing an emergency, then you should seek treatment at the nearest hospital or Emergency Department.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
