Biography

I am a specialist in pediatric gastrointestinal, nutritional, and liver diseases caring for all age groups from infants to adolescents. My practice encompasses both common disorders such as constipation, abdominal pain, and heartburn, and uncommon disorders including inflammatory bowel disease, hepatitis, short bowel syndrome, and management of specialized tube feeding.

Born and raised in Hawaii, my training has taken me from the South, to the Northeast, and finally to Northern California which I now call home. I began in New Orleans with a thorough education in medicine, jazz music, and the Cajun-Creole culinary arts. My medical degree was received at Tulane University in 1998. I pursued a pediatric residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital, where I received the Cornell Medical College Excellence in Teaching Award for two consecutive years. I completed my subspecialty fellowship at University of California, San Francisco. It is in the Bay Area where I met my wife and where we now enjoy raising our daughter and son.

Most recently, I worked in community practice covering two major Southern California children’s hospitals where I also served as a clinical professor in pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine. I joined Kaiser in 2006 which allowed me to concentrate completely on patient care. Three features stand out for me: eliminating the need for insurance authorizations that often delay or preempt necessary tests or treatments, improved care by consolidation of all patient records, and an internal referral system that streamlines needed specialty care.

Although many of my patients may share a similar diagnosis, I appreciate the unique nature of each patient and parent. I believe that the family be active participants their child’s health care and look forward to working together to find the best ways I can help. Your questions are encouraged, and knowing that they often arise after our visit, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (408) 851-9897.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
