About Me...
I obtained my medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco Medical School and then completed my residency in orthopedics at the University of Utah Medical Center. I completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the State University of New York in Syracuse, and was a faculty member there for two and a half years, practicing and teaching spinal surgery.
I went into spinal surgery because I wanted to use my surgical skills in a field that requires knowledge and precision in the execution of the surgical plan. I also enjoy working in a field that is booming with new innovations and new promises of advancement for the good of patients suffering from spinal disorders. Spinal instrumentation allows us to reconstruct spinal problems that were previously inoperable and we are now able to do more of our work in a less-invasive fashion. At Kaiser Permanente we are well-positioned to take leadership positions in our fields because of the tremendous resources of a large, well funded practice and high-volume surgical caseload. Our high volume of cases works in the patients’ best interest because it has been clearly established that surgeons in high-volume practices have lower complication rates than surgeons in lower volume practices.
My other interest is international collaboration in medicine.
When I am not practicing medicine, I enjoy traveling, cycling and reading. In addition to English, I also speak Spanish. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding your care.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
