Welcome to my Home Page! My name is Ann Burke and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker here at Kaiser Permanente. I would like to share some information about myself.

I attended undergraduate school at California State University, Chico and graduated from California State University, Sacramento with my Masters in Social Work in 1991. I am licensed by the California State Board of Behavioral Science, license number LCS21482.

I have many years of experience as a social worker. For 20 of those years, I worked for Yolo County and Sacramento County in Social Services. This included working with Child Welfare and Mental Health. While with County Mental Health, I specialized in working with adults on public assistance who had barriers to employment including substance abuse, mental health issues and domestic violence. I also had a part-time private practice as a therapist for about 3 years. I worked briefly in schools and completed my certification for a school counselor through California State University, Sacramento in 2001. I have some experience working with the elderly and handicapped individuals. More recently, I have begun studying through The Institute for Health Solutions in order to learn Developmental Skills Training (DST) so that I can offer this as another resource for my patients.

I began working for Kaiser Permanente in 2008. The primary reason I wanted to work for Kaiser Permanente was because I share their philosophy of wellness. This philosophy offers many creative opportunities for me and my patients. In addition, I enjoy meeting new colleagues and appreciate their professionalism, creativity and dedication to providing quality service to patients and their families. I like the diversity of Kaiser Permanente staff. I expect I will learn and grow personally and professionally as one of the providers at Kaiser Permanente.

I am especially interested in chemical dependency and addiction as it relates to the way we think about things and how it affects the mind and body. The biological aspects of addiction including neurobiology fascinate me. Learning to deal with addictions is a huge commitment to honoring and caring for self. It is such an honor to be able to observe the transformation of my patients as they travel the path of recovery.

My therapeutic approach is client centered taking into consideration family systems, focusing on the importance of safety and teaching positive coping skills. I have a personal interest in music, yoga and mindfulness and when appropriate bring these into my clinical practice.

I have been a member of the Sacramento Choral Society and I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). I spend a lot of my free time doing yoga, gardening, playing cribbage with my husband and enjoying family.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
