About Me

Prior to joined Kaiser Permanente, I followed a non-traditional route to medicine, pursuing a masters degree in molecular biology, and doing research in the pharmaceutical industry (Syntex) and at Stanford University, prior to medical school. I enjoyed research but I missed having more direct, personal interactions with people. In medicine, I have found that perfect balance of science and helping people more directly.

I graduated from Medical College of Wisconsin in 1995 and completed my residency training here at Kaiser Permanente in Santa Clara. I joined the Kaiser Permanente Staff of Physicians in 1997. I am board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and I have recently become Board Certified in Palliative Care and Hospice.

My Interests

Aside from Hospital Medicine, my medical interests include Adolescent and Preventive medicine and Palliative Care. I chose Hospital Medicine because I enjoy working with patients and staff in an acute care setting. I also work with the Palliative Care team in the hospital and help families make difficult decisions about chronic illness and end of life issues.

Aside from my interests within Kaiser, I also have an interest in medical missions, I have traveled to Mexico and Honduras for different projects and I hope to do more in the future.

In my spare time I like to play volleyball, cycle on my semi-recumbent bike, hike, read biographies and entertain my handsome and intelligent cat.
