Biography
I received my undergraduate degree in biology, with honors, from the University of Chicago, and my medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1992. I completed my residency at the University of California, San Francisco. I come to the Permanente Medical Group in 2006 from Mount Auburn Hospital, where I left an academic appointment with Harvard Medical School and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for the previous 5 years. I was also part of the professional staff at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Children's Hospital in Boston.
Since the well-being of the whole person is extremely important to me, I have strived to ensure the utmost quality of care for my patients through my involvement with the development of the Comprehensive Cancer Care programs and the Comprehensive Cancer Care website (KPSantaClaraCancerCare.org) at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara, with emphasis on the extensive support services and resources that we provide for our patients. Through this experience, I was honored with The Permanente Medical Group 2009 Outstanding Achievement award.
Maintenance of the highest standard of care has been my motto, and it is important for me to assure that the care that I participate in is also of that level. To this end, I am a member of the Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara- Breast Cancer Steering Committee, the Comprehensive Cancer Care Committee (CCC)- Executive Committee, Quality, Performance Improvement and Cancer Data CCC Subcommittee member, Policies and Procedures CCC Workgroup member, and is the Community Outreach Coordinator for the the Comprehensive Cancer Care Committee. I also assisted our program in achieving the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.
My most recent project to further enhance our patient’s well-being is organizing the first Cancer Survivors Day Conference and Celebration at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara in 2010.
Clinical trials have been an avenue for patients to receive promising treatments that they would not otherwise be able to receive, as well as help other patients in the future. Due to my desire to offer this opportunity appropriately to my patients and my participation within the clinical trials program, I was also recognized in 2010 “For valuable contributions and outstanding achievement to Cancer Clinical Trials.”
My Interests
My medical interests in general oncology include breast, prostate, head and neck, lung, and neurological malignancies.
My personal interests include scrap-booking and other arts and crafts, cooking, playing the piano and cello, and exploring the great outdoors with my husband and children.
I am conversationally fluent in Cantonese and am able to understand and speak some Mandarin.
Treatment Philosophy
Patient care is my foremost concern and directs my pursuit of treatment innovation, resulting in improved results, less toxicity, and a better quality of life. I consider patient comfort throughout treatment planning with an aim towards identifying and diminishing potential side effects. The well-being of the whole person is very important to me, so I will maintain my patients' health with a respectful, holistic approach to treatment and by being readily available for any question or concern that a patient may have.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
