About Me

I am a Bay Area Native. I grew up in a small town in the San Joaquin Valley and attended Tracy High School. I received a double major in molecular and cell biology as well as psychology at UC Berkeley. I left the area to attend Medical School in Washington D.C. and returned to complete a residency and a fellowship at Stanford.

I joined the Permanente Medical Group in 2001. My decision to work at Kaiser was influenced by my desire to provide patients with comprehensive and personalized care. In addition to working full time at Kaiser Permanente, I am Adjunct Assistant Clinical Faculty at Stanford.

About What I Do

Sleep medicine is my passion. I serve as the Medical Director for the Regional Sleep Medicine Laboratories, located at Kaiser Permanente San Jose and Santa Clara. These state-of-the-art overnight laboratories help us diagnose and treat complex sleep disorders. In addition to routine diagnostic testing, the lab is equipped to evaluate CPAP, bi-level, servoventilation, average volume assisted pressure support, oral appliance, Provent, supplemental oxygen, esophageal pressure manometry, upper airway pH, esophageal pH, nocturnal penile tumescence, seizure, end-tidal carbon dioxide, transcutaneous carbon dioxide, and actigraphy. This highly sophisticated equipment is housed in the warmth and tranquility of a bed-and-breakfast type setting, with each room containing a fully adjustable bed, plasma television with cable, playstation, calming artwork, real plants, cherry and mahogany furniture. To see the rooms please click "Clinic Tour".

In addition to medicine, my other interests include tennis, travel, my wife and kids.

My Philosophy of Care

I treat my patients the same way I would want to be treated: with respect, with honesty, and with a sense of humor. I recognize that each of my patients is unique and I attempt to provide each with the information and options that allow them to choose what is best for them.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
