My Biography

Kaiser Permanente attracted me as an ideal place to practice because I knew I could expect a fair amount of freedom in my work and I have the autonomy to practice medicine in the way that is most beneficial for the patient. With the Kaiser health care system, providers do not answer to the dictates of insurance companies, nor are they beholden to financial incentives or disincentives. Additionally, the San Francisco Medical Center is conveniently located. I live close enough to walk to work.

As a radiologist at Kaiser, I experience few barriers in terms of my interactions with other providers. As compared with other practice models, we have a very integrative process here. Procedures and tests are readily available, providers can schedule referrals with ease, and patients benefit from little paperwork and a lack of bureaucratic hassles.

My areas of special interest include interventional procedures and coronary CT. As an interventionalist, I enjoy patient interaction, an aspect of my work that is uncommon in radiology. It’s satisfying to perform procedures that assist patients with treatment and diagnosis. Coronary CT is a new field, one in which we are seeing the first non-invasive test for imaging coronary arteries. I expect this advancement to have a large impact on radiology. I keep current in my field by attending and presenting various professional meetings such as the Stanford Multidector CT meeting and the Radiological Society of North America Conference. Here at the medical center, I serve a number of committee and administrative roles, including the Regional Committee for Colonoscopy and cardiac CT.

During my free time, I like dining out, visiting museums, and traveling. I have recently traveled to Patagonia. I keep healthy and active through hiking, exercising, eating in moderation, and taking short naps.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
