Welcome to My Home Page!

I have been involved in social work since 1996, when I began volunteering in underserved communities in St. Louis. Community service has been an important part of my path and training as a social worker. As an undergraduate student I participated in a national community service program called Americorps. After attending graduate school and receiving my clinical social work license, I moved to the rural Midwest to provide mental health services to underserved children and adults through the National Health Service Corps.

I believe that providing good mental health treatment requires connection, communication, and collaboration between the person seeking treatment and the clinician. It is important that each person is an active participant in their care. When someone comes into our program in crisis, I feel it is important to identify resources that will help with the acute mental health symptoms or stressful situation, and then focus on identifying ways to strengthen overall support long-term. I also have learned that the basics such as eating well, exercise, getting enough sleep, and feeling connected to other people are so important in maintaining our mental health!

Here in the Department of Mental Health we have many excellent resources such as classes, groups, brief solution focused therapy, medication evaluation, and crisis services to assist people on their road to recovery.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
