My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a physical therapist who specializes in outpatient orthopedic therapy. I became interested in becoming a physical therapist while working as a student athletic trainer while at De La Salle High School and at Loyola Marymount University. Working with injured athletes allowed me to learn much about the physical and emotional aspects of the healing process. Back then I saw physical therapy as a great way to continue helping people recover from their injuries and return to their active lives. Now, as a physical therapist, I have the unique opportunity to work collaboratively with my patients, both in determining goals and in designing treatment programs to reach those goals.

My Practice Philosophy

I believe that patients benefit the most when they understand why they are hurting and what processes are involved. Each patient’s pain experience is different, which means that I treat every patient individually as a whole person rather than only treating their diagnosis. I am also a strong proponent of evidence-based practice, and I strive to use treatment techniques and methods which are supported by current research. This way I can give my patients the best available care which has been proven to be effective. As a part of the rehabilitative process I also focus on preventative education, helping my patients gain a better understanding of how to keep them healthy and strong once they have achieved their goals.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 2009. I have found that the biggest benefit of working as a physical therapist at Kaiser is that with the available technology I am able to maintain direct contact with both my patients and their health care providers in order to provide them with the best possible care. I also enjoy having the time to get to know my patients so that I can help tailor their rehabilitation plan to best fit their lifestyle.

Why I Chose to Practice Physical Therapy at Kaiser Permanente

I really enjoy working as a physical therapist at Kaiser because of the emphasis on the team approach. I have many opportunities to expand my knowledge base through continuing education, close interaction with the physicians and a large group of highly skilled colleagues. At Kaiser I feel confident that I can provide my patients with the high level of care that they deserve. The support staff is also a great help with scheduling and making sure that patients are able to get in as quickly as possible.

On a Personal Note

I was born and raised in Concord, California. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Natural Sciences from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. I then went on to earn my Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland. I moved to Sacramento soon after and married the love of my life, and we couldn’t be happier. I love living in California because I am always only a few hours away from all of the activities that I enjoy such as wakeboarding, surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking and hiking. I really enjoy the outdoors and I try to spend as much of my free time as I can soaking up the beautiful California sunshine.
