As a specialist in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine I take care of critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital and patients with lung diseases in Pulmonary Clinic. I see patients at both Oakland and Richmond medical centers. I also have specialized training in bioethics and serve on the hospital ethics committees.

I am a native of New York City and came to the San Francisco,Bay Area in 1999 for my medical residency training. I am an avid cyclist, skiier, and rock climber, and a strong believer in physical fitness as a key component to wellness.

I believe in actively engaging my patients in decisions about their medical care. Please take advantage of all of the patient oriented health information that Kaiser Permanente has accumulated from physicians and health educators. We have many resources available. I have linked some of my favorites to this page.

By choosing a primary care provider for regularly scheduled appointments, you help us take better care of you. If you or any member of your family do not yet have a primary care provider, visit the Kaiser Permanente Choose Your Doctor website. We'll help you make the right choice.

Since I am often in the ICU and not in clinic, health related questions are best directed to your primary care provider. If needed, the best way for you to get in touch with me is through Kaiser's secure e-mail message system. If you have not yet signed up, please click the link on this page - it's easy to get started! If you need to schedule a follow-up appointment in the Department of Medicine, or forgot to ask a question during your office visit, please refer to the phone numbers at the top of this page. Visit our East Bay website for a full list of departments and services, phone numbers, hours, and other information.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
