My Practice Philosophy

As the clinical team of the Chemical Dependency Recovery Program, we strive to create a supportive atmosphere in which teens and their families can experience their fully potential for recovery from substance-related problems. We offer a comprehensive program of group therapy for parents, teens and families, education about addiction and parenting skills, individual and family counseling, medical detoxification and coordination with the child psychiatry services in a compassionate and structured setting. We relish the opportunity to help families change the way they feel, think and behave towards each other.

About Me

I was born and raised in Brazil. I immigrated to the US in 1988 and graduated from San Francisco State University Master in Psychology program. I had been practicing in Brazil in the Chemical Dependency field since 1982. In the US, I specialized in adolescence and chemical dependency. I have a special interest in adolescent girls development. I started several activities at Daytop Village treatment center for adolescents geared toward helping girls overcome trauma, develop relationships with themselves and other women in recovery.

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1995 to work almost exclusively with adolescents with chemical dependency problems. I now run the adolescent chemical dependency program at Kaiser Santa Clara Medical Center.

In addition to English, I speak Spanish and Portuguese.

My Interests

Professionally, I am interested in teaching parents all the skills they need to deal with adolescence. I am interested in trauma treatment in children, adolescents and adults as well as development issues for women and adolescents. I enjoy spending my leisure time traveling, riding my bicycle and reading. I am a pet lover and share my life with two cats.

My Credentials

Santa Ursula University, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA Infant Parent Psychotherapy Program, San Francisco Hospital, San Francisco, CA Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
