Welcome to my Home Page. Please feel free to navigate through the links I have provided on the left-hand side of my home page. These links contain information on scheduling appointments, ordering refills and reliable information on Health Education Materials as well as radiology.

Practice Philosophy:

Interventional neuroradiology has greatly expanded the range of cerebrovascular diseases, which can be effectively treated. Many patients have now benefited from treatments, which were not thought to be possible as recently as 5 to 10 years ago. Dr. Liu believes in the safe and effective practice of interventional neuroradiology. To this end, he takes a cautiously aggressive approach to procedures based on support from peer-reviewed scientific literature. The treatment of cerebrovascular disease at our medical center is based on a multidisciplinary approach with close collaboration between the departments of interventional neuroradiology, neurosurgery, and neuro-critical care. I enjoy working with my excellent colleagues at Kaiser Hospital in Redwood City, and I believe that the strong team approach allows us to provide the best care for our patients.

Professional Affiliations:

Dr. Liu received his BA at Yale University where he graduated summa cum laude and with distinction in the major of Economics. He received his MD from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.

After residency training in diagnostic radiology at the University of Chicago Hospital, he did fellowships in diagnostic neuroradiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, in diagnostic neuroradiology and health services research at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, and in interventional neuroradiology at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Liu served as the chief of interventional neuroradiology at the Medical College of Virginia for three years, prior to joining the staff at The Permanente Medical Group in July 2003.

His research has been published in the Journal of Neurosurgery, American Journal of Neuroradiology, and Neurosurgery. He has previously served as deputy editor and is currently a manuscript reviewer for Radiology, and has been a past manuscript reviewer for the American Journal of Neuroradiology and Stroke. He is a member of the San Mateo County Medical Association, the American Society of Therapeutic and Interventional Neuroradiology, American Society of Neuroradiology, and the Radiological Association of North America.

Dr. Liu has also previously served as a consultant to the medical device industry with Guidant Corporation and served on the speaker board for Medtronic Sofamor-Danek.

Personal History and Interests:

Dr. Liu enjoys wine collecting, art, biking, and attending food festivals. He loves to watch professional hockey and competitive eating contests, but could not imagine doing either himself. His favorite team is the Detroit Red Wings. He is fluent in basic Taiwanese and Spanish.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
