Welcome to my home page

After finishing my residency program in New York, I moved to the Bay Area and joined a private practice at a primary care physician. I worked as a primary care physician for one year and it was during this period I found out my real calling was hospital medicine and being a hospitalist. I joined Kaiser Permanente hospital in 2003.

The specialty of hospital medicine is an exciting and growing field of medicine with primary focus and emphasis in patient care. As a hospitalist in coordination with other care providers and specialties, I have the privilege of caring to acute patients 24 hours a day and 7 days a week in real time.

I like all parts of internal medicine but I have special interest in infectious diseases and nephrology.

Background

I finished my undergraduate training in Medicine at Addis Ababa University School of Medicine in Ethiopia. I then came to the USA for my postgraduate studies in internal medicine. I finished my residency training in internal medicine at the North General medical Center in New York, New York. In addition to English I am fluent in Tigrigna and Amharic.

In my spare time I like to read books, listen to music, go to movie theatres and restaurants with my family. I am also an avid biker and found out the Bay Area is the best place for biking. I have also traveled overseas and gave free medical care/service to medically underserved areas.

  • Doctor of Medicine from Addis Ababa University School of Medicine
  • Certification of graduation in Internal medicine from north general hospital in affiliation with Mount-Sinai School of Medicine
  • Board certified in internal medicine by the ABIM

Recommendations

I recommend my patients to exercise daily (such as biking or walking) eat fresh fruits and vegetables (Farmer’s Market at our Kaiser Hospital would be a good place to buy fresh fruits and vegetables.), get annual medical check ups with your PCP and getting annual flu vaccines for those patients above 50 years and those with chronic medical conditions.
