My Philosophy of Care
My Primary Care roots remind me to keep the whole person, as well as their acute illness, in mind. I try to treat each individual with respect and compassion while providing the best up-to-date medical care. I continue to try to hone my own skills, as I believe that ongoing learning is what life is about.
About Me
I was born in New Jersey but lived several places as a child, thus I am not really "from" anywhere. After earning a BA from Minnesota's Carleton College and an MS from University of Massachusetts, I worked 4 years for IBM and then was a homemaker for 12 years -- home with my 3 children -- before starting medical school at Yale University. I graduated from Yale University in 1986. I practiced Primary Care for 13 years and Hospital Medicine for 4 years in Danbury Connecticut, until my husband's job moved us to California. I joined Kaiser Santa Clara in August 2006.
In addition to practicing Hospital Medicine, I have been on the Ethics Committee both in Connecticut and here at Kaiser. I have recently become Co-Chair of the Committee. I am board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and am a fellow of the American College of Physicians. I'm part of the Santa Clara Inpatient Palliative Care Team.
My Interests
I have been active in Community Service, including serving on the Board of Directors of a program for developmentally disabled adults for 9 years, chairman for five of those. My personal interests include playing the flute and being active in sports such as skiing, swimming, hiking and biking.
