Hello, my name is Amanda Hixson. Thank you for visiting my web site. I hope that it will give you an opportunity to learn more about me, and what I can offer you for your physical therapy needs. I am in the clinic Monday through Thursday, and every other Friday. I split my time between the acute hospital setting and in the clinic seeing pediatric patients. I also occasionally see adult orthopedic patients.

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 2005. Prior to this, I worked in Stockton, CA in a private Outpatient Orthopedic clinic.

I believe that one of the main keys to having a positive physical therapy experience is giving the patient or caregiver the power to have an active role in their rehabilitation. This can be done via education, a good home exercise program, and self-management techniques. Not only will a patient find positve results from physical therapy, but they will also gain the power to take better care of their bodies. In the pediatric world, it is vital that parents understand proper development and have strategies in place to help their child to achive developmental milestones via playtime and daily interaction.

As a service to parents, our Pediatric Occupational Therapist and I have developed a course called "Help Me Move", in which we educate parents in a group setting and offer techniques to use at home to progress a child who is delayed in his or her milestones.

I love working at Kaiser for a variety of reasons. I think that Kaiser employs a great team effort in caring for its patients. Our online charting system has been a wonderful way of improving communication between caregivers. The patient's medical records and provider visit notes are available to all patient providers, ensuring all of the necessary information is available with the click of a button.

On a personal note, I have been married to my husband Phil for about 4 years. We have a one year old boy who occupies much of our downtime (and we love it!), but do also enjoy participating in sports activities, spending time with other family and friends, reading and music.

Thank you for taking your time to learn more about me, I look forward to working together to improve either your own health and function, or that of your child!

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
