Welcome to My Internet Home Page

Welcome to my home page. I hope this information will help you in the event you would choose the services of the Kaiser Permanente Stockton, Chemical Dependency Services (CDS).

About Me

I completed my Licensed Vocational Nurse program in 1973 at Sacramento City College, (License number VN61538.) I then graduated from the Breining Institute, Orangevale, California for Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Counseling in 1992 and I am certified by the California Certification Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors. (Certification number A3671096.)

I started working in health care as a convalescent hospital orderly in January 1966, and went to work for Woodland Memorial Hospital, (“Little Mayo of the West”) in August of the same year. In 1968, I went to work for Roseville Community Hospital. I was then hired by the Kaiser Foundation Hospital on Morse Ave at Sacramento in 1971. Kaiser Permanente offered me the opportunity to attend nursing training while working on a part-time schedule basis. From 1979 to 1982, I managed a four bed ward for youth with severe head trauma resulting in prolonged periods of coma, up to and exceeding three months. My responsibitlities include: tracked and monitored changes in levels of consciousness, changes in cognitive function related to motor skills in addition to intensive regular physical therapy; supported family through crisis and integrated their participation in developing activities of daily living. A patient profile of the psychosocial history and patient progress history was standard for all patients. I also followed up with patients and family after Kaiser Permanente Vallejo transferred and discharged and participated in the initial stages of the Head Trauma Family Support Group which was developed later. Kaiser Permanente Hospital also encouraged my Addiction Studies at the Briening Institute. I transferred from the nursing department to work for Kaiser Permanente Sacramento, Alcohol and Drug Program (ADP) in 1991 and then in 1995 I transferred to Kaiser Permanente Stockton, Chemical Dependency Services where I currently practice.

Philosophy of Care

The therapeutic discipline that I gravitate to come largely from Carl Rogers’ Person Centered Therapy, which lends itself to the treatment of addiction when accompanied by a trust relationship that is genuine, non judgmental, caring and empathetic. Carl Rogers’ position of “unconditional positive regard” in my opinion is the center piece of that relationship. I believe I am most effective when I can listen to the voice of addiction and speak to the heart of the individual that is seeking change.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
