My Biography

Having spent most of my life in California, I have been a Kaiser Permanente member for many years. I was pleased to become a Kaiser physician in 2007 when I joined the Plastic Surgery practice at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco and Redwood City.

My practice incorporates the two key facets of plastic surgery: cosmetic/aesthetic surgery and reconstructive surgery. Having completed a microvascular surgery fellowship at Stanford University, I have a special interest in autologous breast reconstruction (for example, using a patient’s own abdominal tissue to reconstruct a breast via the so-called “DIEP” or “muscle-sparing TRAM” flap).

Prior to that, I completed a seven-year residency program that encompassed plastic and general surgery at UC Davis, in addition to wound healing research at the Children’s Surgical Research Lab at Stanford. My interest in medical research stems from my undergraduate and medical school studies, both at UCLA. Along the way, I spent time studying breast cancer at the National Institutes of Health as a Howard Hughes researcher.

With my wife, who is also a Kaiser physician, I have been privileged to volunteer my surgical skills to aid children in underdeveloped countries. So far, we have been to Vietnam and Peru, and we look forward to many more unforgettable memories! At home in the Bay Area, my free time is spent enjoying the outdoors, sketching, sampling local restaurants, and appreciating classic cars.

I look forward to meeting you and providing excellent care within the highly integrated, multidisciplinary Kaiser family.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
