If you are looking at his site, it is likely that you have an interest in who I am. Being a physician is only one facet of my life. I am a husband, a father, a son, an artist, an athlete, a traveler, a chef, a connoisseur, and a friend. My current interests include softball, glassblowing, painting, mountain biking, guitar, and, of course, my family.

I originally grew up in Granada Hills, CA in the San Fernando Valley. I broke free from the inland heat to attend undergraduate education in molecular biology at UCSD, in La Jolla. Here I joined the many pre-med students fascinated by biology, and decided to attend medical school. I left sunny California for frosty Wisconsin, where I enrolled at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

In the freezing winter months of Anatomy, I met the love of my life, and eventually was married to my Anatomy lab partner. The first two years of medical school were rigorous, and I found that the brain and nerves of the body were what interested me most. I decided on Neurosurgery because I found it fascinating, cutting edge, and another use for my hands. Seven years of training later, I graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

We stayed in Cleveland, so my wife could complete her Masters and a grant she was awarded. I began working at University Hospitals of Cleveland/CASE Medical Center doing cerebral vascular and complex cranial cases, and at Southwest General hospital where I did general Neurosurgery cases, specializing in Minimally Invasive Spine procedures.

As our family grew (by two sons and two mutts), I decided to investigate coming back to California to be closer to our family. The first place I looked for a position was Kaiser Permanente. I knew Kaiser Permanente well, having had my childhood care with Kaiser Permanente and was very excited to see that there was an opening at the Redwood City facility. My wife grew up in San Francisco, and there was no place I loved to visit more than the Bay Area. When I saw that a position had been posted just a week prior to my search, I felt like it was meant to be. I remember saying to my wife, “You are not going to believe it!” I had my eye on Redwood City many years before, at a time when they were not hiring. Needless to say, when I interviewed with the staff here I knew that this would be a great fit for me and my family.

I can truly say that I am very happy to be a part of the Neurologic Center here at Redwood City, and every day I strive to provide the best care possible for my patients. I treat my patients just as I would treat my family members. My clinical interests include cerebral aneurysms, cavernous malformations, arterial malformations, meningiomas, pituitary tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, skull base surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery.

Thank you for your interest in me and in Redwood City Neurosurgery.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
