My Biography

Medical Education: Ohio State University College of Medicine, Columbus, OH
Internship: Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, OH
Residency: Ohio State University, Columbus, OH and San Mateo County General Hospital, San Mateo, CA
Board Certification: American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Psychiatry
Joined Kaiser Permanente: June 1987

I have been practicing psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco since 1987. When I started working at Kaiser, I was the psychiatrist assigned to be working with the Drug and Alcohol Program. I now work primarily with Adult patients for medication evaluation and serve as the Chief of the Department of Psychiatry. Before coming to Kaiser I worked in several different settings, including private practice, the VA Hospital, and Community Mental Health Centers.

I lived the first half of my life in Ohio and went to Miami University, where I majored in psychology. I also took the required courses to apply to medical school. I was fascinated with the idea of the integration of the mind and the body. I attended medical school at Ohio State University, where I studied all aspects of medicine, but found the specialty of psychiatry to be a natural integration of my interests in the mind/body connection. I continued on in psychiatry as a resident at Ohio State University and later transferred to the Community Mental Program of San Mateo County, where I completed my residency training not far from where I work now in Daly City.

I enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary integrated-care setting where the physicians are able to provide so many specialized treatments to our patients. I also like working at Kaiser because we are able to interact and learn from so many other providers.

I currently live in San Mateo County. When not working at Kaiser, I enjoy spending time with my family, walking my large dog, and biking around the beautiful area around this county.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
