How to Use My Home Page...
At Kaiser Permanente San Francisco we have a Hospitalist program. This means that we have a group of physicians who are dedicated to taking care of patients who are in the hospital. We work closely with your personal care provider to make sure that your care is coordinated before, during and after your stay in our hospital.
We also work closely with the nurses and other members of our health care team. When you are discharged, we will notify your personal care provider and make sure that they have the information they need to care for you when you get home.
My Biography
Hello- and welcome to my Kaiser Permanente home page! If I’ve met you, it was most likely in the inpatient rooms of our hospital. Why is that? That’s because my primary role in delivering medical care to you, our members, is as a hospitalist. What’s a hospitalist?
The official definition per the Society of Hospital Medicine is: “Hospitalists are physicians whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients. Their activities include patient care, teaching research and leadership related to Hospital Medicine.”
My practice philosophy emphasizes providing the highest quality care for my hospitalized patients. I spend all of my day within the hospital which makes me more readily available to answer your questions, provide follow-up on test results, perform routine procedures, meet with you and your loved ones, and facilitate a smooth hospital discharge. I thrive in the setting of the hospital as I enjoy delivering care related to acute medical issues. It maintains my mental acuity, challenges my daily practices, and keeps me on my toes. In addition, hospital medicine itself is constantly changing and I enjoy the dynamic nature of my practice and the changes driven by evidence-based medicine.
I recognize that being sick in the hospital can be a very stressful time in your life. Often there is so much new information to absorb in such a short time period. One of the aspects that I enjoy as a hospital-based physician is providing reassurance and careful explanations to my patients about their diagnosis, their expected length of illness, and their anticipated post-hospital course at home. Working as a team, I strive to minimize the stress of your hospital stay, to answer your questions and address your concerns, and to listen.
I have been with the Kaiser Permanente organization since beginning my Internal Medicine residency in January 2002 at the San Francisco medical campus. I returned to Kaiser Permanente San Francisco in 2009 after having spent 4 years at Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco in order to pursue my ongoing interests in graduate medical education. In South San Francisco, I was able to cultivate my clinical skills; however, I missed the academic teaching environment and the knowledge exchange among interns, residents, and fellow academic hospitalists. I feel ready to contribute to the next generation of young physicians.
As a training resident physician, I was attracted to Kaiser Permanente’s strong focus on preventative medicine, its multiple chronic care management programs for our patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes, congestive heart failure, and heart disease, its position as a leader in excellence in cardiac care, and the organization’s dedication toward computerized electronic medical charting and patient safety.
Outside of the hospital, I am an avid traveler. I’ve lived in France and Australia, and have managed to step foot on 5 of the 7 continents. Some of my favorite places include New Zealand’s South Island, the Australian outback, Argentina’s Patagonia region, Santorini, Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay and the small villages of the French Alps. Skiing is one of my favorite winter pastimes and basking in the outdoors hiking, swimming, or exploring the great outdoors of our Bay Area in the warmer months is the perfect way for me to wind down and decompress. I enjoy scuba diving and have dived off the coast of Sydney, the Great Barrier Reef, Belize, Mexico, and Malaysia.
I feel extremely lucky to be a Kaiser Permanente physician where I have the support of a solid network of strong physicians and feel privileged to contribute daily to your health maintenance. Cheers to good health and may you live long and thrive.
