Welcome to my web page.
I appreciate the opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself.
Having a neurological problem can be both scary and confusing. My goal is to help my patients truly understand the nature of their disorder so that we can come up with an appropriate plan of care together. It is an honor to be able to treat patients and a privilege to operate on someone in order to improve their life. I love what I do as a neurosurgeon, and I take this responsibility very seriously.
I was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in Enid, Oklahoma, where I spent most of my free time playing tennis and video games. My father is a neurologist, and I am certain that hearing interesting stories about his complex patients steered me into a career in neurosurgery. I left the Midwest for the southern comfort and humidity of Atlanta, where I received my undergraduate education at Emory University. I stayed in the South for medical school and neurosurgical residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. I also completed a two year fellowship in endovascular neurosurgery at Vanderbilt, during which time I focused on coiling intracranial aneurysms, embolizing arteriovenous malformations of the brain and spinal cord, and treating patients with intracranial and extracranial stenosis, stroke, and moyamoya disease.
In addition to cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery, I also have a passion for resecting brain tumors, skull base surgery, microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia, and spinal surgery.
I was attracted to Kaiser Permanente because of the unique opportunity to provide comprehensive care for patients with both routine and complex neurosurgical issues in a collegial environment. I feel that Kaiser Permanente is an excellent model of health care delivery as physicians can focus all of their attention on patient care. The neurosurgery department at Kaiser Permanente Redwood City is comprised of well-trained compassionate surgeons, and I feel lucky to be a part of this dynamic group.
My professional memberships include the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
My wife was raised in Northern California, and we are excited to be living in the Bay Area. I still enjoy playing tennis, as well as reading, skiing, watching movies, and spending time with family.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
