My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a pediatric endocrinologist and I provide care to children with hormonal conditions, which include diabetes and disorders of growth and puberty. I chose this specialty so that I can help these children with special needs to optimize their quality of life. I find this very fulfilling and emotionally rewarding.

Practice Philosophy

I believe in open communication with my patients and their parents, and encourage their involvement in the health care decisions. I strongly advocate for patient/parent education and teach the skills that are needed for better health.

I strive to be respectful of the patient’s needs and to provide culturally appropriate care. I support a team approach to provide comprehensive care of children with diabetes. Children have great potential and deserve the best possible health care with compassion.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 1998. The pediatric endocrinology and diabetes services have expanded a great deal since that time. Many new and novel services are available to better serve our patients.

Reasons I Like Working at Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente provides a wonderful working relationship with my colleagues. I am able to offer the latest treatments and information to my patients. Working at Kaiser Permanente allows me great opportunities to explore and implement new ideas for patient care.

Professional Affiliations and Interests

  • Associate Clinical Professor, Deparment of Pediatrics, UC Davis Medical Center.
  • Committee member, National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP.NIH.GOV)
  • Member, Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society.
  • Member, International Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes.
  • Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  • Co-chair of Public Health Committee of the American Association of Physicians of India
  • Member, Kaiser Physician Wellness and Weight Management committees.
  • Lead organizer for 'Camp Kaiser', the annual camp for children with diabetes.
  • Fund raising for American Association of Diabetes and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
  • Volunteering for health fairs/seminars for the community programs.
  • Medical education to staff and UCD medical students/residents

I have been actively involved in the implementation and running of the program to help reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes in children and conduct an annual camp for children with Type 1 diabetes. It has been very rewarding experience to be able to offer these programs to the Kaiser kids. I am very privileged to receive the coveted Sidney R. Garfield Exceptional Contribution Award for these programs in 2006.

On a Personal Note. . .

I am married to a Kaiser Permanente physician and we have two children. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy reading, writing poetry, and traveling to culturally diverse places. I also experiment with fusion cooking. I have a very enriching professional and personal life.
