Welcome to the Regional Movement Disorders Clinic.
I hope you will find this webpage informative and useful in learning more about Parkinson's disease, dystonia and other movement disorders. Please explore the weblinks provided on the left to expand your knowledge about neurologic disorders which cause problems of movement, and use the links to connect to national support organizations which can provide you with further assistance.
This regional movement disorders consultative service began in 1994 when I centered my practice at Kaiser's Hayward Medical Center. I provide subspecialty consultation and management assistance for my neurology colleagues around Northern California for Parkinson's disease and related disorders, dystonias, tremors, tic disorders, and other conditions associated with involuntary movements. My services are available only by physician referral. I am happy you chose to visit my home page. I see my role at Kaiser, as a specialist in movement disorders, as a way to provide Kaiser members and colleagues with the same high standards of consultative care that one would expect to receive at a university medical center. With that in mind, I would like you to use this opportunity to explore the movement disorder and disease links that I have provided, as well as the caregiver connections. I hope your visit here will expand your knowledge base and inform you in areas in which you have questions.
As for my background, I was born in San Francisco and raised in the Bay Area. I completed an Internship in 1980, a Medical Residency in 1981, and a Brain Tumor Research Fellowship in 1982 at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. I completed a Neurology Residency in 1985 at the Mayo Clinic, Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, and a Movement Disorders Fellowship in 1987 at the University of British Columbia Hospital in Vancouver, Canada.
Prior to joining The Permanente Medical Group in 1987, I served as an Associate Consultant in Neurology at the Mayo Clinic. From 1991 to 1994, I served as a Parkinson's Specialist and Movement Disorders Consultant at the Parkinson's Institute in Sunnyvale, California. I currently serve as Regional Specialist in Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders for Kaiser, Northern California. I have participated in the publication of a number of articles in medical journals, and continue to participate in several neurology research projects in the field of Movement Disorders. I also am an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology at the University of California - San Francisco (UCSF), and teach in the neurology residents' clinic there twice a month.
In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, birdwatching, hiking, reading and art. I am a fourth generation San Franciscan, and can trace my California roots as far back as 1860, when one of my great grandparents lived in Tuolumne County.
