My Biography

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois and attended Northwestern University where I graduated with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. I received my Medical Degree from the University of Illinois in 1983 where I was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. I completed my first year of residency in General Surgery at the University of Illinois Metropolitan Group Hospitals. I then moved to Los Angeles to complete my General Surgery training at the University of California at Los Angeles. My residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery was also completed at the University of California at Los Angeles, where I was awarded the Chief Resident Teaching Award.

After completing my residency, my wife and I moved to Detroit, Michigan for my wife's medical training. While in Michigan, I was a Senior Staff Physician at Henry Ford Hospital, a University of Michigan Affiliate Hospital. I was actively involved in the hospital's residency teaching program and was awarded the Resident Teaching Award.

We moved back to California based on my wife's glorious memories of her undergraduate years at Stanford University. I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1993. I've enjoyed being involved with the Stanford Residency Program and have been on the Stanford Clinical Faculty since 1992. I have authored or co-authored a number of scientific journal articles in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery. I am board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
