My Profession and Why I Chose It

I am in a general OB/GYN practice with interests in family planning, gynecologic surgery including minimally invasive surgery.

I am the medical director of the Sacramento Ob/Gyn Teen clinic which takes care of pregnant teens and provides gynecological care to young women under 20 years old.

I choose obstetrics and gynecology due to the multiple different aspects of its practice. There are few if any other specialties that combine office and surgical practices with the ability to deliver babies. Another aspect which attracted me to obstetrics and gynecology was being able to treat through a patient’s reproductive life cycle, from birth through having her children and ultimately dealing with transition through menopause.

My Credentials

Medical school Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Board certification Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology

My Practice Philosophy

I believe in having the patient participate and decide in her own care.

I believe in practicing evidence-based medicine and I strive to stay at the forefront of current medical knowledge.

I practice with the philosophy that “doctor” is derived from the word for teacher. I try to educate my patients about their health and medical conditions. I work in a team fashion with my colleagues but once I initiate care of a patient I take ownership of that care and see it through.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been in practice since July 2001. I am a member of multiple gynecology committees including quality and perinatal care.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I like practicing at Kaiser Permanente due to the control I have in making decisions with my patients without the fear of insurance bureaucrats interfering. I value the comprehensive nature of Kaiser Permanente with almost all facets of healthcare under one system.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

I am interested in adolescent and pediatric gynecology, all aspects of family planning, gynecologic surgery, and obstetrical care.

  • California Ob/Gyn Society

My Personal History

I grew up in Syracuse, New York. I attended college at the University of California at San Diego. I attended medical school at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. For my obstetrics and gynecology residency, I attended University of California Davis.

I have been married for 11 years and have 9 month-old twin boys. During my free time, I enjoy playing with my children, reading, and trying to get to the gym.
