About Me
I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. My decision to study medicine was apparent early in life. I was influenced by my grandfather who was an Italian immigrant and the oldest of six children. He worked his way up to becoming a physician in New York City. He often shared his joy and privilege of caring for others, and inspired me and other family members who have chosen health care professions. I also discovered a deep value for the precious gift of sight at a young age, as elder family members suffered from glaucoma and macular degeneration, which inspired me to study the field of ophthalmology.
As I pursued a career in medicine, I also enjoyed the adventure of travel along the way. I left the Midwest to attend Boston College for my undergraduate degree, and also studied abroad at Oxford University. The majority of my medical training was in Washington D.C., where I attended medical school and residency in ophthalmology at Georgetown University. I experienced my first taste of Northern California during my surgical internship at Stanford Univeristy Hospital, which is where I met my husband. We were immediately attracted to the diversity of culture and people and healthy outdoor lifestyle, and hoped to one day raise a family here.
After residency, I traveled to Texas to complete a fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and attained board certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology. I then returned to the east coast and practiced as a Cosmetic and Reconstructive Ophthalmic Plastic surgeion in Annapolis, MD. I have always valued research and teaching, and participated as an assistant clinical faculty member at the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Ophthalmic residency programs. My husband and I also share a calling for medical mission work abroad, and have traveled with various organizations to teach and perform surgery in underserved countries including Vietnam, Brazil, Egypt, and Zimbabwe.
My Practice
I am fortunate to have the opportunity to return to Northern California and practice medicine amidst an excellent caliber of physicians and high quality care provided by Kaiser Permanente.
The field of Reconstructive Oculoplastic Services encompasses a variety of conditions, including: ptosis (eyelid drooping causing visual obstruction), dermatochalasis, eyelid cancer and post-Mohs reconstruction, eyelid conditions related to aging, nasolacrimal duct obstruction, tearing, dry eyes, blepharospasm, enucleation for blind painful eyes, orbital and eyelid trauma, orbital tumors and diseases, thyroid related eye disease, and congenital eyelid, lacrimal, and orbital anomalies. I also provide Aesthetic Surgical Services, such as cosmetic eyelid surgery, endoscopic brow lifts and midface lifts, Botox, facial fillers such as Restylane, facial peels, laser resurfacing, and skin care. I also plan to continue my research and teaching as an adjunct clinical instructor at Stanford University Department of Ophthalmology.
My husband and I hope to continue our medical mission work and travel, but we are recently dedicating much of our time to our newest addition to our family, our son, Gabriel. Personally, I enjoy my family, running, skiing, going to the opera, and travel. I look forward to meeting you and providing the excellent care that ou deserve as a patient.
