My Biography
I grew up in San Pedro, California. In 1979, I graduated from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology. I received my Medical Degree in 1983 from Tulane University in New Orleans, and then completed an Internship in Internal Medicine and a Residency in Dermatology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation from 1983 to 1987. I was Chief Resident of Dermatology from 1986-1987. Following my residency, I moved to Chicago, where I worked in private practice and taught in the dermatology residency program at Cook County Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
In 1995, I decided to leave private practice, return to California, and join The Permanente Medical Group. I consider that to be one of the best decisions I've ever made, because working at Kaiser allows me to be part of a great team of physicians without having to manage a private practice. I worked at the Hayward Kaiser from 1995 to 2008, when I transferred to the Oakland facility in order to have a much shorter commute to work.
I treat patients with general dermatologic problems, including psoriasis, eczema, acne, moles, and skin cancer. I generally do not treat cosmetic problems such as leg veins, wrinkles, and other normal signs of skin aging. I treat both children and adults.
I and the entire Dermatology Department want to be certain that all of your concerns are addressed. If you need to schedule a follow-up appointment in the Department of Dermatology or forget to ask a question during your office visit, please call (510) 752-1145.
If you or any of your family members do not have a personal care provider, please call our Personal Physician Selection Service at (510) 752-1111 and a specialist can help make the best choice for you. You can also select a personal care provider online.

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
