About Me

I joined The Permanente Medical Group in September 2004 as a Mohs surgeon. I perform Mohs surgery Monday through Thursday, and see consultations on Friday.

My Background

I am a native of the west coast. Actually, the west coast of Lake Michigan- Chicago. Although in love with the San Francisco Bay Area, I will always be midwestern at heart. I received my undergraduate degree from University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana. I decided on a dual degree during medical school at the University of Illinois in Chicago and obtained both an medical degree and a masters degree in biochemistry in four years. My internal medicine internship was at the University of Chicago. I started a dermatology residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago. We all believe love can move mountains, and it definatedly moved me.....all the way to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio where I completed my residency and fellowship. I moved again to North Carolina and was part of the teaching faculty at Duke University. I was then in private practice in a farming community in Illinois treating skin cancer every day in addition to being part of the teaching faculty at the University of Wisconsin at Madison (The Home of Frederic E. Mohs, MD, who developed the Mohs Micrographic Surgical procedure).

Surgery was my favorite part of dermatology and I decided to make it my life's work. It was once said by someone wise that, "if you find something to do that you love, you will never have to work a day in your life." Mohs surgery is thoroughly enjoyable work and brings me so much satisfaction seeing patients cured of their skin cancer. I have a special interest in reconstructive procedures. My goal is to achieve the best results and preserve functional capabilities while maximizing aesthetics.

I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, as well as a Fellow of the American Society of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. I am also a member of the Women's Dermatologic Society and the San Francisco Dermatology Society.

I feel lucky to work at Kaiser Permanente in our state-of-the-art Mohs lab and surgical suite. I believe that as a Kaiser Permanente physician, I can bring to table my collected skills and concentrate on being a doctor since I am able to practice medicine here in it's purest form. As director of Mohs surgery, I believe we have a great Mohs team that is commited to giving you excellent care and making your visit with us as pleasant as possible.

Personal Interests

When I'm not at work I enjoy spending time with my husband and two active boys.

Philosophy of care

I believe in giving holistic, realistic, and compasionate care. I believe in assessing the entire individual as they relate to their life. I like to discuss available treatment options, provide recommendations, and then in partnering with the patient decide on next steps. I believe in making the patient comfortable and as pain-free as possible, and making their experience with the Mohs team a pleasant one. Thank you for reading my personal statement.
