My Biography
The opportunity to practice medicine in a comprehensive and integrated health care system, among excellent colleagues, brought me to Kaiser Permanente San Francisco. I enjoy developing enduring relationships with my patients, and I get to see the whole spectrum of cardiology issues, from preventive care to acute illness. As a general cardiologist, I work with patients who present diverse heart conditions. It is my strong belief that patients do best when they are proactive about avoiding heart problems, and about making healthy lifestyle choices, such as stopping smoking, eating a heart-healthy diet, and getting regular exercise. My research program is dedicated to enhancing current knowledge regarding the mechanisms which lead to stress-induced heart attack, arrhythmia, and heart failure. I am also interested in brain/heart interactions.
Away from the office, I enjoy running, playing basketball, gardening, following baseball stats, and engaging in various fun activities with my family. I am happily married and have four children.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
