Welcome to my home page!
I am pleased to offer this web site as a means to provide helpful medical information for patients, as well as an opportunity for you to learn more about me and my practice. I hope that through this medium I will be able to better serve you with the most current information, useful handouts, and helpful web links. In addition my below experiences I am also the Chief of Ophthalmology. Our department serves the ophthalmologic needs for Kaiser members in Marin and southern Sonoma counties.
I am a native of Georgia and obtained a B.S. in Microbiology at the University of Georgia in 1991. A Magna cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate, I had a special interest in classic Roman and Greek culture and ancient western history, which I studied at Oxford University, in England.
In 1995 I received my medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. I was invited to join the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Society in my third year of training and upon graduation was given the Merck Merit Award for academic excellence.
I interned in both medicine and surgery at the Mayo Clinics in Jacksonville, Florida and Scottsdale, Arizona. Following my internships I completed residency training at the internationally renowned, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida in 1999. I then began my post-graduate, American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery approved fellowship training at Duke University in 1999. After formal fellowship training I pursued additional training in cosmetic facial surgery and later served as the director of aesthetic services at the Atlantic Eye and Face Center in Cary, North Carolina while simultaneously serving as assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
I am a board certified ophthalmologist; fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. I have contributed to over ten medical texts and authored numerous articles in the medical literature. I enjoy travel, science and literature. Other interests include preservation architecture and I am an avid supporter of the theatre and arts.
My practice covers the full scope of problems related to the eyelids and orbit, including blepharospasm, eyelid malpositions, tearing disorders, thyroid eye disease, and eyelid and orbital trauma. I treat intraocular malignancies as well as cancer involving the eyelids, and ocular surface. I perform functional eyelid and orbital surgery in both children and adults and have an interest in aesthetic concerns performing laser assisted eyelid surgery, laser skin resurfacing, and facial rejuvenation procedures including face lifts, Botox and Restylane injections.
Your comments and suggestions are always welcome, and I look forward to seeing you at your next appointment.
