My Biography:
I completed my undergraduate work at Tufts University from which I graduated Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Then, I went to the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine to earn my medical degree. Next, I went to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for four years for residency training and a fellowship in General Medicine and Medical Ethics.
I met my wife at Dartmouth. After a year in private practice, we moved to California. I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1990, and my wife attended Stanford for her residency in pediatrics. We have two children, a boy and a girl that take up most of our free time.
At Kaiser, I have served on the Ethics Committee at Santa Clara and have been on the Stanford faculty, teaching medical students. Within the Department of Medicine, I have been the director of the Kaiser Milpitas Cholesterol Program since 1993 and the Kaiser Milpitas Diabetes Program since 1997. At the end of 1994, I became Assistant Chief of Medicine, and in 1996, I became Chief of Medicine at Milpitas.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
