My Practice Philosophy
Providing you with the highest quality of care in my specialty area of Obstetrics and Gynecology is my primary priority to you as my patient. I am very pleased and excited that the many resources of Kaiser Permanente healthcare are available to you to both maintain and advance your health and thrive.
About Me
I was born and raised on the East Coast, although after three decades on the West Coast, I like to consider myself a Californian. In 1973, I graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biophysics and Microbiology from the University of Pittsburgh (PA). I received my medical degree from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. in 1977. I served my internship and one year of residency at Georgetown. My last two years of residency in OB/GYN were completed here at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara.
I am a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. I have published several scientific papers and authored a chapter in an OB/GYN textbook for medical students. I have received awards in Outstanding Clinical Instruction (1984), Excellence in Surgical Teaching (1988), Special Recognition for Excellent Clinical Teaching (1990), and the Council of Resident Education in OB/GYN National Faculty Award for Excellence in Resident Education (1997 and 1999). I was also named as one of the “Best Doctors” in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2008 by Bay Area Consumers Checkbook magazine.
I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1981 and currently serve as Assistant Chief of Service in the Department of OB/GYN and Director of the OB/GYN Residency Program at Santa Clara. I have also been appointed Clinical Associate Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. I have a special interest in education and you may see a Stanford medical student or OB/GYN Resident with me during your visit.
My Interests
I am a bicycle commuter, in virtually any weather, and an avid swimmer and skier. I live with my wife of 27 years. Our daughter is a graduate of Loyola-Marymount University (L.A.). Our son is a graduate of the University of Southern California and is currently enrolled in the Georgetown University School of Medicine. Our household includes a Shepherd-Border Collie, tortoise, chinchilla, red-eared turtle, and tropical fish. Our family enjoys traveling together and family ski trips. The animals stay at home.
I want to be certain all of your concerns are addressed. If you forget to ask a question during your visit, you may leave me a message at the above telephone number. Either, I, or my medical assistant, will return your call.
