Training the next generation of excellent physicians
Good training is critical to producing excellent doctors, and we're proud that more than 200 residents come to Kaiser Permanente Northern California every year to hone their skills. Our medical residency program is one of the nation's largest, with 14 subspecialties that include internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and pediatrics.
Great doctors, great teachers
Thousands of medical students at some of the state's leading medical schools benefit from our physicians' expertise. More than 600 of our physicians are faculty members at schools that include Stanford University; the University of California, San Francisco; and the University of California, Davis.
A leader in medical research
There's a certain peace of mind you get knowing that your health care provider is a leader in medical research. Kaiser Permanente's Division of Research in Northern California runs one of the largest non-academic medical research programs in the country—in fact, we receive more than $38 million in grants every year. Our 400-member staff works on 200 projects annually, and their findings are regularly featured in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and many other clinical publications.
Getting them off to the right start: training for health care workers
Hundreds of nurses, radiologists, and other medical professionals began their careers through Kaiser Permanente training programs. Our medical centers serve as a training site for students in the Nurse Anesthetist Program at Samuel Merritt College, and we hire some 80 percent of the program's graduates every year.
Local residents who don't have health insurance get the benefit of hands-on training from students enrolled in the postgraduate Physical Therapy Residency Program at the Kaiser Permanente Hayward Medical Center. The Physical Therapy Fellowship Program, which is accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association, has teamed up with the Davis Street Community Center RotaCare Free Clinic to provide free physical therapy services to the uninsured.
More career opportunities can be found within the Kaiser Permanente School of Allied Health Sciences. We offer training programs in radiological imaging, radiation therapy, and many other allied health science professions. These fully accredited programs are approved by the state Bureau for Private Post-Secondary and Vocational Education.
