When someone you respect gives a movie or restaurant a good review, you probably take it pretty seriously. That's how we feel about the following recognition from some of the most respected health care reviewers—a good review acknowledging a job well done!
National Committee for Quality Assurance
In the 2007 Health Plan Report Card of the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA), KPNC earned four stars ("excellent") in four of the five main categories of measurement—Access & Service, Staying Healthy, Getting Better, and Living with Illness; and three stars ("commendable") in Qualified Providers. No other California plan scored higher, and we again earned an accreditation rating of "excellent." (http://web.ncqa.org)
U.S. News and World Report
Once again, KP Northern California was ranked as the best health plan in the state on the annual list of top health plans in the nation by US News & World Report magazine. (www.usnews.com)
Office of the Patient Advocate (OPA)
Kaiser Permanente earned more four-star ratings for excellence than any other surveyed plan in the 2007 report card released by the California Office of the Patient Advocate (OPA). We were ranked first or tied for first in all "Meeting National Standards of Care" categories, including Heart Care, Diabetes Care, Asthma Care, Maternity Care, Treating Children: Getting the Right Care, and Mental Health Care. For meeting national standards of care, The Permanente Medical Group was rated excellent, the highest possible score, in nearly every county it serves. (http://www.opa.ca.gov)
Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA)
All 27 locations where Permanente Medical Groups practice in California were ranked as "Top Performers" in the state by the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA), a nonprofit organization that manages the nation's largest pay-for-performance program for physicians. (http://www.iha.org)
Leading consumer magazine
KPNC was the top HMO in the U.S. for member loyalty, according to a leading nonprofit consumer magazine. Our score was also better than the highest rated PPO in the nation. Overall, KP was No. 4 in the nation and No. 1 in California for "overall satisfaction with health plan." Our nearest competitor in Northern California ranked 19th.
eValue8
Kaiser Permanente was the highest scoring HMO in California as measured
by eValue8, a tool of the National Business Coalition on Health. KP led in all seven areas of evaluation, including disease management, adoption of health information technology, and cost transparency. Managed in California by the Pacific Business Group on Health, eValue8 helps purchasers of group health insurance shop for "value". (http://www.nbch.org/eValue8/index.cfm)
CalPERS
The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS), the third largest purchaser of health care benefits in the country, rated Kaiser Permanente the top HMO in its survey both for quality and overall member satisfaction.
