The National Council on Aging has given its President’s Award to Kaiser Permanente for helping thousands of Kaiser Permanente members better understand the Medicare Part D Low-Income Subsidy program.

Kaiser Permanente Recognized by NCQA for Innovative Program to Reduce Health Care Disparities - Nov 16 2007
Kaiser Permanente has received the "Recognizing Innovation in Multicultural Health Care Award" from the National Committee for Quality Assurance for its efforts to provide health plan members across the country with culturally and linguistically appropriate health care services.
"Kaiser Permanente has created an innovative program that health plans nationwide should use as a model for bridging language and cultural gaps that so easily get in the way of quality health care," said Margaret E. O'Kane, president of NCQA. Kaiser Permanente received its award in Washington, D.C., on November 13 during the second annual "Breakthroughs in Reducing Health Care Disparities" conference.
In 2006, KP’s Qualified Bilingual Staff Model Program and Health Care Interpreter Certificate programs also won the Recognizing Innovation in Multicultural Health Care Award from the National Committee for
Quality Assurance.

The National Business Coalition on Health has honored Kaiser Permanente’s family violence prevention program as one of the most innovative health care programs of the year.
KP’s Family Violence Prevention Program in Northern California was one of three winners of the 2007 “eValue8 Health Plan Innovation Awards” bestowed by the NBCH. The eValue8 awards identify and recognize the innovative and creative work of providers that develop and implement programs that address critical health care issues. The three winners were chosen from more than 60 entries.

Kaiser Permanente is a "Green Electronics Champion" for its leadership in buying environmentally friendly computers and monitors, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Green Electronics Council announced Oct. 2.
Kaiser Permanente is the first and only health care organization that the EPA and the Green Electronics Council have honored for "going green" as it regards buying the most environmentally efficient electronics gear.

Kaiser Permanente, long a "green" leader, is finding creative new ways to reduce its impact on the environment as it pursues one of the largest hospital construction initiatives on record. One current project, the Modesto Medical Center, recently earned national recognition as one of the greenest health care projects in North America. Kaiser Permanente received the 2007 Innovation and Excellence in Community Leadership Award, given by America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) for its Health Care Interpreter Certificate Program (HCICP). The program addresses the dearth of qualified, professional health care interpreters who provide linguistically and culturally appropriate interpreting assistance in the United States.
Raising the standard for care management
Kaiser Permanente won a Recognizing Excellence Award for 2005 from the Disease Management Association of America (DMAA), a nonprofit group committed to quality care for the chronically ill. The Care Management Institute, Kaiser Permanente (KP-CMI), won the Best Application of Behavioral Change Principles to Disease Management award, for instituting innovative behavioral change programs designed for weight management, from the DMAA.
Heart disease has met its match
When it comes to heart care, Kaiser Permanente in Northern California (KPNC) is setting the standard. In fact, the National Committee for Quality Assurance, the nation's leading reviewer of health plan quality, has acknowledged our work. In NCQA's 2002 Annual Report, they highlighted our program: "The nation's number one killer—cardiovascular disease—has met its match in Northern California. Armed with guidelines, databases, reports, and tracking and reminding systems, health care professionals at Kaiser Permanente Northern California have accomplished something remarkable: They have reduced death from heart disease among [their] 3 million members so significantly that it is no longer the leading cause of death in this population, though it remains so in the general population. Adjusting for age and gender, death from heart disease is more than 30 percent lower in the [Kaiser Permanente] population than in the non-KPNC population in California." AMGA Medical Group Preeminence Award for Exceptional Leadership
The Permanente Medical Group was one of three medical groups honored to receive the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) Preeminence Award. TPMG's award cited improved enrollee satisfaction, financial investments that improved access and service, implementation of a system-wide conflict-of-interest policy, technological innovations and the dispatching of volunteer medical teams to help victims of Hurricane Katrina and natural disasters in Southeast Asia and Pakistan.
The award is given annually to members of the association that exhibit exceptional leadership, innovation and vision, contributions to the advancement of quality, and outstanding work in their local communities. The presentation took place at AMGA's annual conference, held March 15-18, 2006 in San Antonio.
Accelerating Improvement in Childhood Obesity
KP NCAL was one of three programs selected from over 80 national submissions for the "2006 National Recognition Awards for Health Care Programs Addressing Childhood Obesity" by the National Initiative for Children's Healthcare Quality (NICHQ).
In June 2007, after two years of study, a committee made of up of representatives from 15 health professional organizations released broad recommendations for the management of overweight and obese children.
Kaiser Permanente, long a leader in preventive health education measures to address the problem of childhood obesity and overweight, was consulted directly by the National Institute of Child Health Care Quality (NICHQ) about KP's care management protocols in the area of childhood obesity as part of the two-year study. Many of KP's preventive care standards—such as targeted physician communication with families on the topic of weight, measuring BMI as a vital sign, were included in the group's final recommendations.
Farmers' market project praised for bringing fresh produce

Kaiser Permanente's innovative farmers' market initiative received the 2005 Ellis J. Bonner Community Leadership Award. The award, presented annually by America's Health Insurance Plans, a national trade association representing nearly 1,300 member companies, recognizes health insurance plans that successfully identified and addressed a community need through innovation, creativity, and leadership.
The farmers' market initiative represents our commitment to promoting health by introducing fresh fruits and vegetables into neighborhoods where they are not often available to residents.
Notable in 2007, Kaiser Permanente's relationships with small farms are growing as the organization works to fill thousands of patient meals with fresh, locally grown produce. Kaiser Permanente purchased more than 60 tons of fresh, locally sourced produce in California for patient meals in 2007.

In 2006, Kaiser Permanente was one of 138 employers nationwide to score a 100% rating on the Corporate Equality Index. Kaiser Permanente is the only health care provider to score 100%. The Human Rights Campaign's fifth annual Corporate Equality Index (CEI) evaluates corporate policies affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees throughout the country.
Trophy winner at the Tournament of Roses Parade
in January 2006-2008
Kaiser Permanente’s entry—“Aloha Festival”—won the Director’s Trophy for outstanding artistic merit in design and floral presentation in the 119th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, January 2008. In the third year participating in the Tournament of Roses parade, KP’s float celebrated the “Aloha Spirit,” a traditional Hawaiian attitude that embraces a healthy state of mind and body. In 2006, KP’s entry—“The Magic of Good Health”—received the Director’s Trophy and in 2007 KP’s float—“A Thriving Imagination”—received recognition by winning the President’s Trophy for the most effective use and presentation of flowers.
