THRIVE: A Healthy You ...Click here to get connected and learn how to live healthier every day.

Hello and welcome to my home page!

About Me:
I was born in Germany to first generation Japanese-American parents and grew up in various locales as my father was an American serviceman. As far back as I can remember, I dreamed of being a physician and went to Stanford University as an undergraduate with that dream in mind. But as life sometimes happens, I followed a different path, earning a Master's degree in Physical Therapy and later starting a Physical Therapy business. While my business was successful, my childhood dream kept resurfacing. Throwing caution to the wind, I sold my business and began my training as a physician.

I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 2004 after completing my Internal Medicine residency at Kaiser Oakland Medical Center. I feel fortunate to be following my life’s calling and honored to be your physician. In keeping with my osteopathic roots, I believe that health arises from the whole-- body, mind, and spirit. I try to approach our relationship with this in mind. I also strongly believe in preventative health, so I view our relationship as a long-term partnership, a shared responsibility in working toward your optimal health. I look forward to our journey together.

Professional Interests
I am especially interested in end-of-life issues and care and am a member of the Kaiser Oakland Hospital Palliative Care Team. Additionally, I maintain a practice of osteopathic manual medicine, and I am part of the Young Adult Clinic team - physicians providing care to young adults who have no physician or are just leaving the care of their pediatricians.

Personal Interests
When I am not chasing after my two children, I enjoy hiking and biking in our wonderful Bay Area parklands. I am a frustrated woodworker and have an intermittent meditation practice.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
