My Biography

I'm a native Californian and have lived in the Santa Clara Valley Area since 1959. I attended the University of California at Santa Cruz where I graduated with honors with a B.A. in Psychology. After completing my Master's Degree in Psychology from San Jose State University, I decided to return to my childhood dream of studying medicine. I received my Medical Degree from the University of California at San Francisco and completed my residency in Internal Medicine at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Santa Clara, serving as Chief Resident and Medical Fellow in my final year.

I have a lifetime teaching credential for the State of California. I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1984.

I've held several administrative positions over the years, including Chief of Member Services for the Kaiser facility that was previously located in Sunnyvale. Currently, I'm Chief of Health Education and have a special interest in preventive medicine and health promotion. I encourage all of my patients to visit the Health Education Center on the first floor.

I have two grown children and several grandchildren. I live with my life partner in Mountain View. I'm an active volunteer for Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) and have lobbied in both Washington D.C. and Sacramento for the civil liberties of ALL people. I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and bird watching, as well as traveling worldwide. I'm a member of the Sierra Club and the Nature Conservancy.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
